Word search generator

Your words hidden in a grid, in as many as eight directions, with the answers on a second sheet.

It runs entirely in this browser tab: the seed makes a sheet repeatable, nothing is uploaded, and nothing about a child is stored anywhere.

Settings

Grid size
A bigger grid holds more words and takes more paper. A number from 8 to 24.
Backwards words
Off is the puzzle for a younger class.
Filler letters
The letters the empty squares are filled from. Empty means A to Z.
Keep the accents
Kept, the grid is right; taken off, it is one letter simpler.
Print the answers
The key is a column, and switching it off takes the column away.
Seed
The same seed prints the same sheet, for the whole class and for next year. Empty draws a fresh one and shows it.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the box above, or open a file.
  2. Adjust the settings beside it until the result is what you wanted.
  3. Copy the result, or save it as a file. The result updates as you type.

Questions

Can I print the same sheet again?
Yes, and that is what the seed is for. Type a word or a number into it and the sheet is the same every time; share the link and everybody gets that sheet. A fresh one shows the seed it used, so a sheet that went well can be pinned after the fact.
Where are the answers?
On the sheet, unless you switch them off — and the result says which way round it is. Turn them off before handing it out; turn them back on for marking.
Is anything about my class stored?
No. There is no account, no progress and no score, and no list you paste leaves this tab. The sheet is drawn in the browser and printed from it.
How do I print it?
Copy or save the result and print that. What comes out is what is on the screen: the sheets are laid out to be printed rather than to be filled in on a phone.
